Consultancy firm KPMG has announced that it expects cases of data loss to increase during the course of this year 2009 as the recession unfolds. 2008 was the worst ever for data loss and forecasts are that data loss figures will continue to rise, with the number of people affected by personal data loss more than doubling from 92 million to 190 million globally by the end of this year.
 
Have you ever truly considered the value of your data or the consequences of you losing or having it breached? A recent survey of users across the EMEA region found that 78% of them believed their data to be of substantial value in terms of intellectual property, or commercially sensitive data. Data stored on the average laptop is estimated at being in the region of GBP550,000

The Public Sector worker is measured by directives from the Cabinet Office, BECTA, Local directives and the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) amongst others. We are also measured by the Data Protection Act, and the Financial Services authority whom can levy substantial fines against companies for failure to protect customer data.
